Unprofitable Customers
Over time “vampire” customers may begin to drain valuable time and resources from your business; therefore, it may be beneficial to end the relationship. You may have heard the term “fire a customer” but how is it done and why would any business want to do so? Although legacy clients can be essential to a successful business there comes a time to evaluate the cost associated with servicing such clients. Our CPAs have the business advisory skills to help you “lose the vampires” without burning bridges.
Scope Creep/High-Maintenance Customers
When a project evolves into a project that is barely recognizable from the original bid it may be due to scope creep. The customer or organization making the demands may not be willing to pay the full amount (or pay anything) for the requested changes. Once again, it may be time to "fire the customer" without violating a contract or harming your reputation.
Unprofitable Products/Services
Similarly, some products or services may be too costly to continue to offer. They may no longer provide the margin that you desire of simply draw down too much time and energy. There may come a time to lose the "vampire" services and products from the menu of products that you offer. Finally, it may be advantageous to write-off vampire products and in doing so, your tax liability may be reduced.
